We have been serving the Spokane community since 1975, offering comprehensive exams, prescriptions, diagnoses, referrals and eye wear. Our team is led by optometrist Dr. Shurtz and we are committed to improving your vision and health. We can prescribe medication that helps people over the age of 40 to see up close without the need for reading glasses

We offer effective myopia control options for children and teenagers, including low-dose atropine therapy and specially designed soft contact lenses. These treatments can help slow the progression of nearsightedness, reducing the need for stronger prescriptions over time.
About Dr. Shurtz
Continuing a Legacy of Exceptional Eye Care in North Spokane
For nearly five decades, North Spokane Eye Care has been a trusted name in eye health, proudly serving the community since 1975. In 2024, Dr. David Shurtz took the reins, continuing the longstanding tradition of compassionate, patient-centered care.
Dr. Shurtz earned his undergraduate degree in Environmental Science from Brigham Young University and went on to receive his Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Houston in 2017. After several years of practicing in southern Arizona, he and his wife moved to Spokane-her hometownto begin the exciting adventure of private practice ownership.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Shurtz enjoys taking full advantage of the four beautiful seasons of the Inland Northwest, spending time outdoors hiking, playing ultimate frisbee, and exploring all that Spokane has to offer. Above all, he is dedicated to helping his patients see their best and experience the world with clarity and confidence.

We offer a full range of lens enhancements, including custom tinting, Transition lenses, high-index materials, and impact-resistant Trivex® lenses, all backed by a warranty for your peace of mind.
We’re proud to be one of the few optical offices in the region able to fit children’s glasses through Medicaid, ensuring that every child in our community has access to quality vision care and durable eyewear.
